andro: New Blades, New Lines

Damien Eloi, former World #11, led the team that redesigned andro's renowned blade collection. They introduced several new models and made it easier to pick which blade is best suited for you. When describing how they mix synthetic layers with natural wood layers, they use a simple two letter code to describe what synthetic they use and where it is placed. And then this code becomes part of that model’s name.

The 4 codes they use are:

  • CO (Carbon Outer)—Carbon Fiber layers are used and are placed underneath the outer wood plies of the blade. This provides additional stiffness and speed.
  • FO (Fiber Outer)—TXL Fiber layers are used and are placed underneath the outer wood plies of the blade. Similar to CO but with a softer feel and a touch less speed.
  • CI (Carbon Inner)—Carbon Fiber layers surround both sides of the inner core wood ply. This placement gives the blade a softer touch and higher control, while maintaining blade stiffness. Slower than FO, but faster than FI.
  • FI (Fiber Inner)—TXL Fiber layers on both sides of the inner core wood ply enhances the sweet spot and provides greater control, especially for off-center shots

Ligna

TP_Ligna represets the ultimate in fine blade craftsmanship. From the exquisite woods selected for each model to the special sawing method used to create the wood veneers, these blades scream perfection. They are indeed andro’s finest instruments, an apt description considering that only fine musical instruments like violins use comparable manufacturing techniques. These pieces of art blend together the special properties of various wood and synthetic layers to create table tennis blades that are highly functional and that you will be proud to own. A true example of precision German engineering and craftsmanship. Available in 2 models from OFF and OFF+. Tp_Ligna are highest quality blades from andro that are made in Germany.

Treiber  (New Line)

andro’s Treiber line is designed for very direct transmission of ball impact signals to the player’s hand and transferring full energy of the blade impact to the ball. Treiber blades offer a wide range of gears, making them suitable for soft touch drop shots as well as cranked up rips and smashes. All four blades in this series are rated OFF, but starting with the FI OFF, each model offers a slight improvement in speed. After FI OFF, there are the CI OFF, FO OFF/S, and finally CO OFF/S, the fastest of the Treiber blades.

Novacell  (New Line)

Novacell blades have a unique feature not found in any other andro blade—they have foam-filled cells incorporated within the handle to reduce vibrations, increasing fault tolerance in your strokes and reducing inaccuracy. All blades in this line are 5 ply, all wood, and represent an ideal balance between speed and control. Ideal for high-percentage players, young players still learning the game, and others who value precisely timed attacks and variable play.

Kanter  (New Line)

The Kanter blades are both featherweight. The FO is 72 grams while the CO is an incredible 68 grams. The light weight is due to an inner core of balsa, a wood that is very lightweight and because there are only 3 wood plies plus the 2 synthetic plies. Balsa has been a favored wood for table tennis blades for a long time for its soft forgiving feel on touch shots, and its excellent speed when attacking. Marrying balsa with carbon or fiber provides the ideal stiffness to the soft balsa to create really fine offensive blades for close to table and mid-distance offensive and variable offensive players.

Timber  (New Line)

The Timber blades are classical all wood blades and come in two 7-ply models and two 5-ply models. The 7-ply models are stiffer and faster (and slightly heavier) than the 5-ply models, making them most suitable for close-to-table play, especially for players using short pips. The 5-ply blades are lighter, more flexible, and offered in models to suit virtually any type of player—OFF & ALL/S.
